Curator's Note

Every piece in the Stranger Folkes Archive is chosen for a reason. Some are curious, some unsettling, and others seem to have wandered in from somewhere beyond the ordinary.

Specimen No. A-0768 caught Emma's attention almost immediately.

She found the witch sitting quietly amongst a field of wildflowers, her tall hat silhouetted against the fading light. Beside her sat a small black cat, watching the meadow as though it knew something Emma didn't.

Emma stayed unusually still.

She said the pair looked as though they were waiting for nightfall.

And, naturally, she decided they belonged in the Archive.

This atmospheric piece captures a wonderfully mysterious woodland scene, with a solitary witch and her feline companion surrounded by wildflowers, grasses and tiny points of glowing light. The warm, dusky background contrasts beautifully with the deep silhouettes of the figures.

The simple black frame keeps the focus on the artwork while giving it a gothic, folklore-inspired feel.
